- Location: Cooke City Montana
- Description: I spent some great powder days skiing and snowmobilng around Cooke City. Its generally really cold, but the snow....oh the snow.....My brother and I went up to Cooke City for our annual "do something fun" trip. If you have not been, you should go. Its the mecca of snowmobiling. It snowed about 65" prior to our arrival. Oh, a little side note, If you rent the biggest sled possible, be sure to have an army available to dig it out. A 1000cc 4 stroke is only fun on top of the powder....

- Description: It's hard to get a great photograph of an icon that has ben shot a few million times already. However, with a little "illegal" hiking, and a new technique, I think I may have captured somehting new in something so old. The Lower Falls of the Yellowstone is one of my favorite places. I used to hike down late at night and early in the morning for a bit of solitude when I worked at the Canyon Lodge in the early 90's. If your are willing to venture a bit, and find the right times, you still can have the whole canyon to yourself.....July 2004

- Description: I've spent a lot of great times in and around Missoula. I have many friends that make it their home, and we try to visit as much as possible. However, even after dozens of attempts, I had never been able to capture the right image of town. The location and weather had just never cooperated for me. Then finally, on a recent early October morning, I hiked Mount Sentinel in hopes that the sunrise would light up the fall colors that had begun to start to change all over the valley. As a few students from down at the University of Montana began to gather around the M and watch what I was doing, I finally got the image I had always wanted. A full 200 degree view from the south canyon to Lolo, all the way north to the Bitteroot River and the Rattlesnake.....

- Location: Gallatin River
- Description: Shot in July, 2003.
Even though it is thought there are no Grayling in the Gallatin, it has been a stocked fishery for the low population Arctic Grayling for several years (see FWP website for stocking info)..... I set out to capture a fly fishing shot with all the elements of the moment above and under water. The biggest challenge was to shoot the fish in their natural habitat. But with a challenge, also comes a reward. After three days of snorkeling in the upper and lower Gallatin, shooting hundreds of shots with whitefish and rainbows, and setting up the fly casting shot with my buddy and dog, I not only finally got a pair of 8+ inch Grayling, but in turn I found a new sport that I think I love more than fishing itself! Free floating down a river with snorkel gear! If you have not tried it, I recommend it to every fisherman or anyone who likes viewing nature and a foriegn landscape in which we can not live. .................**Being that I am calling this a photograph, I should for the record also state that this image is a photo illustration. An illustration in that the above water shot and the below water shot were taken on different days, though n the same or very close to the same location.

- Description: A group of wild mustangs fly through the open plains of the Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range near the Bighorn Canyon Recreation area and the Crow Nation Reservation.
*As seen in the book "Montana Panoramic Volume 1: 1997-2007"
The Pryor Mountain wild horse herd is one of the few wild horse herds of the Spanish descendants remaining in the US today. I had been cruising around the area all day, sitting and watching 3 separate herds trying to find the right angle to get a shot with the Bighorn in the background. Later in the afternoon, this group allowed me to get about 200 yards to them and get a few close ups with the big lenses. While sitting in the hot red dirt surrounded by sagebrush, something spooked them from behind and they came stampeding right at me! I quickly changed lenses and stood my ground, hoping to get the shot and not get trampled. My heart was racing, I could not believe it, they were passing right in front of exactly where I had wanted to get the shot! I fumbled a bit on the exposure settings, and hoped for the best. After shooting fast as I could (moving objects in a stitched panoramic are not easy) I slowly caught by breath and stood up to watch them pass by. The lead mare had stopped about 25 yards and was staring at me, trying to get a smell of what I was about. I said thank you. She gave a slight nod (or at least it seemed like a nod) and she was off to join the others in the rising dust over the plains.......May 20th, 2006

And of course, there was the the very loud intercom system that could be heard for miles, even at my house on North Plum....."NUMBER 22 IN THE HOLE!, NUMBER 23 IN THE HOLE!.......I heard that stockyards recently sold, and the inevitable condos will probably soon appear, so I figured I better get a good historical shot.....It just so happens, that this location was also one of my favorite places to sit and relax and watch a sunset or two over the years. - Description: I hiked down into the Lamar Valley a bit to get away from the carloads of others watching the scene below. He and about 6 other large bulls just sat around and mulled for grass under the deep snow without a care. Survival of the fittest indeed.

I quickly grabbed the camera and and the bear spray and hoped that mom was not too close by.....But there she was, slowly meandering through the brush, picking at roots and insects. Then came one more cub, then another....triplets!!! I did not know this was possible, but there it was. I spent the next hour following them from a safe distance finally getting this pano as the sun rose over the valley.

Warm Sun, Smith River
- Location: Smith River Montana
- Description: The Smith River float is one of the most beautiful floats in Montana, hands down. However, there is a downside. It can only be done in the early spring when the water level is high enough, otherwise it is just a small creek........This shot was taken just as we got out of the canyon and saw the sun for the first time in 4 days. We paddled into the worst blizzard I've ever been in, I've never, ever been so cold as on this trip (a little frostbite was had) and I've never enjoyed sitting on a warm rock in the sunshine so much. Ahh, the simple pleasures....Shot in May 2002.

Washboards
- Location: Springhill Montana
- Description: My goal was to capture the amazing sunsets that flow over the Bridger Range. I had passed by this spot on Rector Road many times, and I new if I could just be there when the light was just right........This was also my first successful attempt at a "multi-row" shot to really capture the immense space and large skies of the area. Captured by shooting 30 35mm images, 2 horizontal rows of 15, then hand stitched in about 7 days post production. Shot in August 2003.
